The White Ram is a book we checked out from the library. This is the synopsis from School Library Journal, via Amazon:
This stunningly illustrated picture book is based on a Midrash about a white ram that is made by God on the sixth day of creation for a single purpose–to sacrifice himself on the altar in exchange for Abrahams son.
The first time I read this, Daughter was breathless: "This is a book about Jesus! This is a book about Jesus!"
I wonder if the author, Mordicai Gerstein, would be surprised by that reaction.
Romans 11:11-17
Again I ask: Did they stumble so as to fall beyond recovery? Not at all! Rather, because of their transgression, salvation has come to the Gentiles. . . consider this: You do not support the root, but the root supports you.
P. S. The text reads "In the twilight of the first Sabbath" -- that doesn't sound like "the sixth day of creation" -- that sounds to me like the vigil of the eighth day of creation -- the day Christians celebrate the Resurrection.
