Low Tech

Last summer, there was an article in the paper about how many of the suburban schools had purchased interactive screens for use in the classroom. Each student would have a hand-held device to answer questions as they appear on screen.

I was struck about how the article seemed to reinforce the notion of "look, folks, don't try this at home" when it comes to education.

The power went out yesterday at my home. We did our work by sunlight, and continued, uninterrupted by the outage.

For lack of a hot meal at home, Dad took everyone out to eat, too.

Your poor kids...being forced to slave away by sunlight when they could be looking at a touch screen in a room with 25 other kids...

At least they got a hot meal at the end of it! ;)
